About Us

The 25 by 2025 campaign’s goal is to get 25% of domestic violence shelters in the U.S. pet-friendly by 2025. It’s a project by RedRover, in partnership with PetSmart Charities and Greater Good Charities, with support from Purina.

The campaign is working to increase the number of shelters that can take in both survivors and their pets who are escaping abusers. They’re doing this by advocating for pet-friendly policies, giving out grants, and providing technical support.

These organizations are dedicated to improving the lives of both pets and their owners.

RedRover is a national animal welfare 501(c)(3) non-profit that serves the United States and parts of Canada. Since 1987, RedRover has focused on bringing animals out of crisis and strengthening the human-animal bond through emergency sheltering, disaster relief services, financial assistance, and education.

Since 2012, RedRover has given 138 Safe Housing grants to domestic violence shelters, enabling them to become pet friendly. To learn how RedRover is creating a more compassionate world, visit RedRover.org or follow us on FacebookInstagram, or Twitter.

Purina and RedRover envision a world where no one is trapped in abuse because they can’t take their whole family with them, including their pets. That’s why Purina has partnered with RedRover to create The Purple Leash Project – a grant program that provides funding and resources to convert domestic violence shelters into pet-friendly spaces, so survivors and their pets can escape and heal together.
