A Day of Don’t Forget the Pets at Dallas-Fort Worth

And, we’re off! Our Don’t Forget the Pets (DFTP) in-person workshop tour kicked off just last month in Fort Worth, Texas with our BIGGEST workshop yet! 50 representatives joined us from across the Dallas-Fort Worth area and across disciplines including:

  • Animal welfare
  • Human services (including domestic violence, homelessness, child/youth advocates)
  • Family justice centers
  • Healthcare

Plus law enforcement, funders, and education!

The day-long workshop focuses on providing an overview on the importance and process of pet housing programs to keep people and their pets together in times of crisis. But, more importantly, it provides the opportunity for connection and conversation between organizations that might not normally interact.

Our goal? For organizations to leave feeling more connected to others in their community, and feeling more confident about their next steps to supporting people and their pets.

When asked, “What was the most important thing you took away from the workshop?” attendees shared:

“It was great to see that other states deal with the same issues and have overcome them.”

“Connections with human services organizations. There was also a lot of info…that I am able to take and apply to trainings for other programs that we are doing.”

“The networking.”

“Meeting others trying to accomplish this work to create partnerships.”

And we know it works! In fact, 84% of our 2023 Safe Housing grantees have attended a workshop.

After, we headed to Albuquerque, New Mexico for a special two-day workshop hosted by Animal Protection New Mexico. Next up, we’re headed to Maryland, Georgia, and Alabama!
